Fieldtrip Fridays

On Fridays, I try to get out of the house to do something with the kids.  This works between 50 - 75% of the time.  Our main excursion is to the Boonshoft Science Museum, though we have taken trips to various metro parks and museums.  Last week, I finally remembered to take the camera to document the event.

The boys standing under their favorite planet.   There is also a large globe that changes from planet to planet as it rotates.  Will loves yelling about Jupiter's "giant red spot".
Will sporting the light refracting shades.  He wasn't that impressed.

Our little paleontologist.  She stood watching other kids play in this pit for a good 10 minutes, gradually getting closer and closer until she finally got in...about 2 minutes before the boys decided it was time to move on.
They have some really neat lego displays which is about the only area where the kids can't touch something.  The boys spend a really long time looking at all of the detail, though, while providing sound effects.  Molly is my first child to actually show more interest in the legos they have available to play with.
One of my favorite rooms is the tree house.  It is generally one of the quietest rooms.  And they have a huge cross section of a tree trunk with a timeline showing major events in history.  The boys prefer to bird watch with binoculars.  Or people watch.
Molly crawled through several tunnels all by herself.  She is incredibly independent.  But, it does help to have a brother showing her the way.
Another favorite location is the general store and pizza parlor.  I love watching the kids interact with other children.

Molly kept adding to this little girl's groceries.  I let her mom know that I would cover the additional cost.
When we do venture out to various museums, the kids are pretty good about staying in the same place.  Though there are times when I use a tactic that I refer to as triangulation.  I pick a spot where I can see all three children in their separate activities.  It works really well for the most part, though, often one if not all three kids looks unattended.  I sort of enjoy watching other adults start looking around for the person who abandoned their 1-year-old at a crowded museum.

I miss that. There is NOTHING like that within two hours of here. I guess we just need to break the bank and come and visit you.
