GOAL!!!!

Dominic's soccer season started about a month ago.  Eric is the coach and Dom is the youngest of nine kids, the oldest of which will turn 7 in July.   Despite the age gap,  Dom is doing really well.  He loves to play  (which at this stage is really the point) and it helps that we have played quite a bit with him in our backyard.  I'm not saying I'm great, but I can probably match a 6-year-old's skill level.
They've played three games so far.  The first two were cold and rainy.  In fact, the first game was called at half due to the temperature.  Last week, only 4 players showed up to play, but after borrowing 3 players from the opposing team, everyone got to play all four quarters.  This was great experience for the players. Though, they were all exhausted by the end.
Saturday, 7 players arrived and they decided to play 7 on 7.  Even though practice was canceled this week due to the weather, it was amazing to see how well some of the players have progressed from game one.  In particular, we were proud with how well Dom kept the ball in bounds.  Players from the other team would kick it out of bounds regularly and then act like the fact it was our ball was unfair.  Dom and others on his team would stop the ball as it came to the line and control it so that they could keep it in play.  We are also impressed with Dom's energy level.  He is constantly running and getting into the play.  While others started to get tired and would stay back, he would run from one end of the field to the other to try and get to the ball.  As focused as he was, he always looked over at me and smiled.  Though, he later told me that he was working on his mean face...I don't think he'll intimidate too many people with that.  Although, I bet he had his mean face on and then looked to me to see if I had seen it.  Yeah, that's probably it.

But, the best part was that today Dominic Joseph Buschelman scored his first goal as an official soccer player.  It was so great and I was so proud and happy for him.  He had come so close in previous games, and he was trying so hard, I felt confident it would happen eventually.  We spend a lot of time practicing a celebratory run after a goal, so it was good to see that put to work!  Clint Dempsey:  Watch Out!!!

Super exciting!! So is Dom a striker?

Mary Ann played her tournament this weekend and it was incredible how exciting these games were. It's great to watch kids play, have fun, and also learn to work as a team. Proud of our kids!!
