Water Towers

Eric would say I am giving too much information here, but I think this story needs a little back story to really set the right tone. Before Eric and I were married we were driving around a neighborhood in silence which lead to a discussion about whether or not one should talk about anything, no matter how mundane, in order to at least have some semblance of a conversation. This then lead to me just randomly saying anything I saw. Soon this developed into a game where we tried to see who could spot the most fire hydrants before the other person. If you think that sounds silly, you should really try it and just see how competitive it can get.

Anyway. . .

Fast forward 6 years or so and now we have a couple of sons. Both of whom love to yell out random objects that they see and know the name of. "AIRPLANE!", "TRACTOR!", "HORSE!", "JAYHAWK!" and so on.

Most recently, Dominic has been noticing the various water towers that we see as we drive to and from various activities. As well as memorizing the locations. This has now become our new game and it is a race to see who can spot the water tower first. It was pretty fun to play on our most recent visit to Kansas (as there are more water towers visible along I-70 than fire hydrants). Even on the way back, despite the fact we hit the road before 6 AM, Dom spotted the first water tower as we left Lawrence and sleepily declared it his. Those car DVD players have nothing on this source of entertainment.

I used to count windmills on our drives through the Iowa countryside.
