Last week I got struck in the wee hours of Thursday morning with a stomach bug. It was the usual 24 hour variety and meant that Eric took a vacation day and I got to lounge in my bed and finish a book. The boys were a little concerned when they heard I was sick, as none of us ever spend an entire day in bed (except for the last time I had the bug).
When explaining my illness, without wanting to go into too graphic detail, I told them I had a stomach bug. To which William wisely inquired "Why'd you eat a bug?". I then poorly clarified that I had caught a bug. To which he further asked: "Is it still in your room?". I told him I hoped not, but that he should stay away for a while all the same so that he didn't catch it. He responded "I will not", as in "I will not catch it".
Most of the conversations I had with William on that day went in a similar fashion. He will occasionally still bring up the existence of this rogue bug that makes one so sick that they cannot even get out of bed to watch such cinematic classics like "Cars 2" or "Spiderman and his Amazing Friends". However, last night, the whole bug thing got personal for young William (even more so than the fact it had taken down his beloved mother for a solid 24 hours). We were saying our 3 decades of the rosary and I was using his new favorite car, "Francisco", as collateral for pious behavior (he was already on thin ice due to some poor choices earlier at Mass). He had been duly warned and chose to ignore those warnings. As a result, he did not get to snuggle with the small, hard plastic car as he drifted off to dreams of race tracks and roaring crowds. He was beside himself and being a soft-hearted woman, I showed him that Francisco would pass the night sitting by a picture of William in our room. This calmed him down a bit, until he got a concerned look in his eyes and implored me to keep the bug away from his cherished friend.
I am pleased to say that we all survived the night, and that Will collected his precious this morning a little before 7 (but after we made him use the bathroom).

Um...can you give up facebook forever? It seems we get much more blog time because of your Lenten observance ;)
Love hearing more about your daily lives. Call me sometime!!
3 decades?? Oh man...I hope we don't spend the night in the same house next time you visit. Trying to get our kids through one decade is quite trying enough!!
