Today, February 23rd

I was going to post about my birthday weekend and some other events leading up to it...but, I'll wait until Eric downloads his pictures to the computer for that.

Instead, I'll just write about a few things that have already happened today and I want to remember them.

First, I let Molly play with Play-Doh this morning.  It has been a while since this had happened.  I'm sure my discovery of Play-Doh flattened into carpet, couches, and clothes had something to do with its banishment from our domicile.  But, Valentine's Day melted my cold heart and I reintroduced it into our lives.  What I had not expected, but totally should have seen coming, was the way Dom and Will immediately (well, almost immediately...they had to finish their schoolwork first) started to pretend they were participating in the Great British Baking Show (Season 1 available now on Netflix!).  I heard the word: Scrumptious! many times.  I believe the boys reveled in the opportunity to judge the creations.  Upon watching the first episode with them snuggled in on my bed a few weeks ago, Will made the observation that though the judges had been critical of one contestant's chocolate desserts he would have told her they looked AWESOME!

Second, during lunch I decided to quiz the boys on their state capital knowledge.  I do this every so often just to see what they know.  I'm always quite impressed with Dom as we did really hit these when he was in preschool, but have done very little with them since aside from these random quizzes and listening to the State Capital song form Animaniacs on a semi-regular basis.  He actually knows quite a few.  Though, not Wyoming's.  However, after today, that is hopefully no longer the case.  In an effort to make it a bit easier, I thought I would say the capital and have them tell me the state.  Surprisingly, this did not work out very well.  I stopped after a few, the last being Cheyenne and switched to naming the state.  This went much more smoothly.  The funny twist being that if Dom did not know the capital, he just guessed Cheyenne.  Initially, he did this as a logical guess which I complimented him on, then it just became silly.  Though, he would stop himself and name the correct capital when he knew it.  We all fell into laughter every single time there was a pause and his grin spread over his face.  The really great thing was that as I was calling the states in alphabetical order, Wyoming was dead last.  The joke lasted through to the bitter end.  I feel that today may be the start of a little inside joke between my children and myself.  When in doubt, guess Cheyenne!

Oh!  And Molly added her own witticism.  When I asked: Nevada?  Her quick response was: Nevada Kedavra!  As in Avada Kedavra...the killing curse.  She slays me!
