We had Will's 18-month appointment this past week (and yes, for those of you who can count, he was actually 19 months by the time this occurred). The doctor wanted to know if he had at least 10 to 20 words in his vocabulary. I knew he had several, so I just said yes and crossed my fingers that I wasn't lying. Particularly since it was Ash Wednesday. However, this morning, for lack of anything more pressing to do, Eric and I sat down and wrote down the words or phrases we knew he would use unprompted off the top of our heads. Here is the list (in no particular order of frequency):
1.Mommy
2.Daddy
3.Dominic
4.Where'd Daddy go? (or Mommy or anything else that he recently saw and does not now see)
5. Cereal
6. Thank you
7. Bunny FooFoo (Yes, we have another son attached to a security blanket)
8. Up
9. Please
10. Nana
11. Grandpa (We clearly need to work on Grandma, he pointed at her picture and said something indistinct, though Dom was yelling "GRANDMA!!" over him, so who knows?)
12. Poopa (What the boys call L'Opa)
13. Apple
14. Milk
15. Cookie
16. I Did It!
17. Jayhawk (Rock Chalk? Occasionally)
18. Duck
19. Horse
20. Dog
21. Hi
22. Bye bye!
23. Airplane
24. Jesus (in a good way, generally pointing at a crucifix or anyone with a brown beard. White beards are generally called "Santa", Dom's influence)
25. Nose
26. Eyes (Will likes to just start poking parts of my face and naming them, often first thing
27. Mouth in the morning. While I'm still grasping at a few more minutes of sleep)
28. Ears
29. Nemo
30. Uh oh! (added as it probably makes up the better part of any particular conversation with Will)
31. More
32. Elmo
33. No
34. Yes
35. 'K
36. Bilibo (crazy bucket toy that he got for Christmas)
37. Basketball
38. Again
39. Monkey (first time he said this was during Mass and quite loudly)
40. Woah!
41. Makes train whistle sound when faced with any locomotive (not exactly a word, but Eric wanted me to add it)
42. Stand up!
43. Go!
44. Broken!
Ok, that's where I will end the list. Will keeps saying words and I've added 10 that weren't on the original list. Some words are more distinct than others (that may only be understood by parents). But, now grandparents can know what sort of conversation level to expect next time we see you!
