Back to the trip...

After taking a bit of a detour from the trip...

As we were in the area, we thought it would be a good time to go visit Eric's grandparents in Omaha.  We drove the 3.5 hours up to Nebraska and enjoyed the beautiful scenery along the way.  And I say that in complete seriousness.  I loved the wide open spaces and farms along the way.

We spent a few short hours with Great Grandpa and Great Grandma.  The kids had a great time playing with all of the Halloween decorations and walking around their backyard.  I think we also got a game of Go Fish in...which I'm pretty sure I lost...figures.  We also left with some little pumpkins and Jack-o-Lantern beanie babies that helped create a mantle display for Halloween.  Oh!  We also got a great Jayhawk peg board that now hangs proudly in the kids room and helps keep their sweatshirts off the floor.  Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!!

The next day, we made plans to visit some friends in Topeka which is conveniently also the location of a state capitol building!  As Dom was not feeling well, he elected to stay home with Nana (and make a reconnaisance trip to a local Jayhawk store...where he proceeded to list everything as a birthday gift idea)
For the occasion, Nana braided Molly's hair.  She was adorable.  Too bad I can't seem to replicate it, though I did try...once.
Will and Molly in the Congressional Chamber.  They had a great time (as usual) climbing all of the stairs and not really listening to us as we told them not to run.  Luckily, no one was around, so it really wasn't a problem.
Will doing his best impression of John Brown.  All he needs is a beard and he'd be set!
The Dome of the capitol.  It is a beautiful building.  We though Nashville was lovely, but Topeka's building was really something.  Bonus, parking was nearer and free.  Advantage Topeka!  We were unable to purchase an ornament this trip, but we need to return with Dom anyway and we happen to know people in the area, so I think it is a pretty safe bet we'll be back.
Upon our return, we took a bike ride with Nana and came home and got ready for bed.  Maybe not immediately, but I think at least one or two of could have.  Traveling takes a lot out of you!

Next up:  Fun with the Reddigs!

You guys are great. Glad you made it to Omaha. Eric looks so different in glasses. That is, compared to middle school. Can't wait to try my hand at Molly's hair again.

Dominic and I did not know your price limit ---- so we had to find things in every range! And, of course we decided that Arby's was the way to go for lunch. Fun morning.
