After a day of rest in Lawrence (where I realized my wallet was missing...more on that in a future post), we headed back to Lee's Summit to enjoy the company of the Reddigs and see some of the sights. Eric for a couple years has been wanting to visit the National World War I Museum in downtown Kansas City. It was incredible and I highly recommend you visit it if you ever have the chance. Even the school aged kids enjoyed the visit as the museum provided an excellent workbook for the kids to fill as they went through the exhibits. I am also glad that we have taken Dom as we have referred back to it several times. Most recently today as we watched English Premier League players who were wearing poppies on their uniforms. We will definitely be going back as the 2 hours we spent there was far too brief. However, Margaret and Molly (and perhaps Robert who sort of got put in charge of them...) may disagree.
After we finished our tour, we headed to Crown Center Plaza which is just a fun place to walk around. We also went to a fun restaurant (with sub-par food, though I enjoyed my burger), Fritz's. The fun of this restaurant is that you get to phone in your order at your table and then a train delivers your meal.
Not to mention the totally awesome engineer hats. Good times were had by all.
From there we proceeded to Legoland across the street. Of which I have no photographic evidence. Typical. But, we had a nice time perusing the various exhibits and taking part in the few rides available. I think the biggest hit for the kids was the karaoke machine...granted, this had nothing to do with Legos, but it was fun to hear their sweet voices over the loud speakers. Until Dom and Will started doing their Mario and Fafa routine which consists mainly of saying the word "Stupid!" quite loudly...
We are very lucky to have cousins so close in ages. Mary Ann is the eldest, followed by Dom who is 21 months younger, followed by Rose who is 2 weeks younger, followed by Will who is 21 months younger, followed by Peter who is 10 months younger, followed by Molly who is 19 months younger, followed by Margaret who is 20 months younger, followed by this baby I am currently carrying who will be 19 months younger. It is just a shame that we don't live closer together. But, when we do get together we seldom see the cousins and any fights are extremely short lived. Now, we just need to wait a couple of years when the two youngest will make it possible for us to believe we are on a child free vacation...
Dom celebrated his birthday with some of his best friends. And he loved it. More on that in the next post.
As I said, most fights were short lived. But, blood was never spilt. (side note, you can sort of see Katie's mantle in the background. It was pretty cool and inspired me to do at least something. I mean, she had a stuffed bird on hers. How cool is that?)
