For as long as I can remember, Dom has loved history and geography. I'm guessing it started about the time his first best friend moved to France and we made a point of showing him France on the world map shower curtain in his bathroom. Thus, when Nana started sending him the books of the Rush Revere series, he was an instant fan. One of the main characters is the horse, Liberty. Apparently, this character is hilarious. I have not read the books, but Eric read the first two aloud and was amazed at how the boys would collapse in fits of giggles over the things this horse would say.
Anyway, Nana would let the publishers of this book know how much her grandchildren enjoyed the books. Last summer, they thanked her for her support and asked for her address to send a token of their appreciation. She arrived home one day to discover a giant box on her porch. It contained 13 stuffed Libertys. One for each of her grandchildren. She delivered our four on a visit with the simple request to get a picture of the kids holding their horses. Simple enough...except, it took us nearly 5 months to complete the request. Just in time for a late Christmas Gift.
Here was our photo shoot:
We are really not great at staging photos. Luckily, the grandkids love their Nana and when I told them it was for her, they were a little more enthusiastic.
It also helped the John was totally into it. And I would let them see each picture so they could judge for themselves if it was 'good enough'.
It is tricky enough getting four children to look at the camera at the same time. Let alone with decent smiles...and then factor in the high probability of glare on the glasses.
We are talking a Herculean Effort here, folks.
At one point, just the divas took over.
And then someone has a pretty high opinion of himself. He did not want ANYONE else in the picture except the horses.
I did know that as long as they were happy and laughing, we would get some fantastic smiles.
And then, I looked at the screen and realized we had nailed it. Perfection (ignore the minor glare off of Molly's glasses). As they say in French: Incroyable!
It only took us 9 takes, which is pretty miraculous. Plus, we totally beat my brother and sister who were tasked with the same request. Granted, they added props...so, overall, a draw. Still, it is amazing what can happen when we all work as a team.
Next up: Will writes some riddles and other stories

Great to see the photo shoots. Thank you. I've not seen the pictures on the Revere website, but trust that they will be there in the near future. Thanks! And love to all those Liberty lovers.
Nailed it. No props necessary
How special! Nana, I think it is wonderful you reached out to the publisher. I'm sure they don't get that as much in our digital age. It goes to show that we all should express our thanks more often!
