Will's Word Riddles

Several weeks ago, Will had an assignment in his vocabulary work given to him that he liked so much that he spent extra time making up additional exercises.  I have kept his product up on the fridge for a couple of months now, but I thought I would just type it up and save it here.

1. Spell me backwards and take away my 's'. What do I become? (Word: Mars)
2.  Split me in half. What two words do I become? (Word: Saturn)
3. Take out my 'id' ending.  What do I become? (Word: Cupid)
4. Spell me backwards and take out my 'uc' and I become something you do with chips. (Word: Cupid)
5. Put a 't' in my l's place and take out p and o and I become a name (Word: Pluto)
6. Take out my a, l, l, and o, and add a p and I become a noise. (Word: Apollo)
7. Spell me backwards and take out my uj and I become a word you might fond on a light switch. (Word: Juno)
8. Take out my j and u and I become the opposite of yes. (Word: Juno)
9. Take out my j, u, e, and r and I become a deep hole. (Word: Jupiter)
10. Take out my i, t, e, and r and put an m after the u, but before the p and I become an action (Word: Jupiter)
11.  Spell me backwards and take out my i,p,u, and j and put an n before the t. (Word: Jupiter)
12.  Spell me backwards and take out e and v. (Word: Venus)
13. Spell me backwards, take out the e then split me in half.  What two things do I become? (Word: Neptune)

I won't give the answers, but feel free to request them.  I'm pretty sure the limited audience reading this will not have any issues.

In other news, the kids and I have started taking a walk around the neighborhood.  The three oldest ride their scooters and John and I follow with the stroller.  It is pretty fun to watch them glide effortlessly around on those scooters.  And they all seem to enjoy it and look forward to it.  Which is good, because I don't have that much motivation to get everyone dressed with shoes and socks on every single morning.  Not sure how you parents do it that take their kids to school every single day!  After the walk, the boys have taken to playing a game or two or three of checkers.  Granted it postpones schoolwork by a good half hour to 45 minutes, but I figure it is pretty educational.  Checkers is definitely in Will's domain of activities that he excels at.  Though, Dom did play him to a draw the other day which we didn't know was a thing.  In fact, they played to two draws.  But, somehow Dom wasn't as happy about the second one as he thought he was going to win.  Today, I participated in a tournament.  They seeded me 4 out of 4.  I expressed mock indignation...but, it was deserved.  Will crushed me, though I did get in a triple jump towards the end that he did not see coming.  Didn't change the outcome, but it was still thrilling.  Will took the tournament, but Dom did point out that their games are getting longer...so that showed improvement in his game.  I do love his positive outlook!  And it is nice to watch them play something that isn't video game related.

Next: I don't really know....hopefully something about John and Molly...right?

Love the post as always. I'm curious if these are all word problems Will came up with himself? I'm impressed either way. Great job, William!

Yes, he did. I went back and looked at the inspiration and he even chose the words independently. They are Roman Gods, I think. Maybe a mix of Roman and Greek. I bought a discounted Greek Mythology book...it was discounted because some of the Gods were Roman. Oops.
