April activities not Easter or Road Trip

Anyone else just go through pictures when it is time to update the blog and pick a random organization method as your memories are jolted?  No? Just me?  Well, here we go!

April went by pretty fast in my opinion.  Baseball games started and after a pretty sad first game, Dom's team came alive for the next couple.  I had been impressed with the coaches from the first practice, but the way they were able to turn around their team after the first outing blew me away! Dom got on base and scored twice in his second game.
Last year, he scored in his first game and I missed getting a picture of it, but figured it would happen again...nope!  Ok, so he did score in his final game.  A thrilling tale I and anyone else willing or held captive has heard many times.  But, this season he has scored 4 times and gotten on base 6 times in four games. Batting last no less.  And, can I just say: the 10 - 12 year teams are way more exciting to watch than the younger league.  Though, I do love watching William as he has grown quite a bit as a player, but his team has kids as young as 6 and baseball more than any other sport is a full team effort.  The older kids just move the game along much quicker.  At any rate, I had my camera ready this time, and again, if you would like to see a video of everyone's favorite sports kid scoring, let me know!  I will pass it along.  (though, just an FYI: ESPN will not be hiring me anytime soon for my filming skills)

Baseball practice can be as many as 4 evenings a week plus games on Saturday, so it can feel like that is all that is going on.  But, it is not!  We are also still doing school a bit, though assessments taken at the beginning of April marked the beginning of the end of the school year.  And motivation is on the low side as books are steadily being completed.  Our Tinker Crate was a high point for a few days.  The boys assembled a spin art kit with a little assistance.  I remember thinking these were so cool as a kid.  And they are still cool now especially when you get to mess with the resistance to see how that affects the speed.  Unfortunately, the higher speeds would cause the plate to come off its base and between four eager kids, we ran out of the paint pretty quickly.  Still, it was a pretty fun science activity that doubled as art.  Win/Win
We made it to the beach for our first outing of the season.  The water was a little chilly, but the kids had a great time playing in the sand.  Will spent over an hour digging a hole.  As with many of his activities, he inspired his siblings and some onlookers to follow suit.  Don't worry, we made sure to
fill in the hole when we left so that no sea turtles would hurt.

On April 4th, the boys took their assessments for our school year.  I proctored the first day, but was unable to on the second due to lack of childcare.  That turned out to be a very good thing, because I had lost my voice.  By the next day, I was feeling worse and spent most of the day in bed.  By Friday, Eric called into work and after telling his co-workers my symptoms, a bunch of engineers diagnosed me with the flu.  After two days in bed and two more of feeling pretty bad, but having things to do so I was out of bed, I finally felt a little better.  But, really it's only been this week that I haven't had a cough or runny nose.  So...just about a month of having something not feel right.  Yay!

Molly made me these pancakes to help me feel better:
Her artistic ability is not just confined to morning breakfast products, in the last month she has been doing a lot of drawing and illustrating of stories:
Finally, John's low key birthday was a hit!  I had been sick leading up to it and baseball was happening constantly, so there just wasn't a lot of prep.  But, he felt loved and had a great day all the same.  And he has proudly been telling people he is three ever since.
So there you go, April in between Easter and a major Road Trip.  Phew!  That was fast!
