Nailed It!

A week has already passed since we celebrated Dom's birthday.  But, I can use this time to brag about how great Dom performed in his game this morning.  The other team had a player who has played in the Bundesliga youth program for the last few years.  And it showed!  However, Dom did a great job defending against him and even took one particularly hard shot to the stomach while in goal.  Speaking of Germany, Will's game last week had a 7 - 1 result, or like Will said: Just like Germany v. Brazil.  Will personally made a hat trick +1 (That would be 4 goals in laymen terms).  He will now only answer to his middle name of Thomas.  (As in Thomas Mueller) (Look him up)(He's amazing)(If you like soccer)

Anyway...after the games last week, Dom opened the rest of his presents while a perfectly good chocolate milkshake melted in the sun.  I did my best to not let it go completely to waste.  The kid should really get his priorities straight.

Dom made out like a bandit on gifts this year.  The timely gift of a Royals baseball cap (thanks to his Godparents) has quickly become a staple in his wardrobe.

Cash is always a big hit.  With both parents and Dom.  Now when he wants something, we get to just say he can pay for it :). 

John enjoyed the festivities.  He did not get any gifts for turning 6 months, but I did spring for a $1 helium balloon from the Dollar Tree (I love that store!).

Nana and L'Opa really scored with loads of Jayhawk inspired gifts.  The spiral notebooks and pencils have been used quite a bit this week.  I haven't had a chance to read the Naismith inspired book, but I've heard rave reviews from Dom and Dad.  Oklahoma State also was represented with Grandma and Grandpa's gift of a OSU football kit which included pants and padding and numbers.  Dom has wanted this particular set for a very long time.  Now he plays football in the front yard even more realistically than before.

After the success of last year's birthday decorations which consisted of a lego set from Ninjago on brownies, we did the same thing this year.  The big difference was that Will put together the Melting Room Scene from The Lego Movie the night before (as opposed to Eric doing it).  Will kept the secret pretty well.  He only whispered everything to me when Dom was a room away.  I stepped up the fanciness a bit by having the kids make an 8 out of peanut butter chips.  As the post is aptly named: I Nailed It!

Dom requested lego sets and The Lego Movie specifically.  Mitzi came through with the movie!  And we got him the lego set which included Metalbeard (which just happens to be Dom's Halloween costume this year...look forward to that post!).  To be totally honest, I didn't know if Dom would have the attention span to complete a pretty difficult lego set.  He is very supportive of Will's creations, but has never completed one on his own.  But, he impressed both of us when he spent a couple hours on his own making Metalbeard.  He only asked for assistance once to take a piece apart. 

He impressed me further when he accidentally broke it shortly before completion and did not cry or pout about it (not that he normally does behave in this manner, but he'd put so much effort into it at that point!).  Just matter of factly said he'd need to fix it in the morning.  Which he did:

It has of course since been destroyed, but I have faith he will rise again.  We had a wonderful birthday celebration that culminated in a viewing of The Lego Movie with friends.  Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special!
