So much so, we went ahead and put John in the youngest group despite being a couple years too young. Hey, it isn't the Olympics.
Molly and John both 'ran' a half mile. We were a little concerned when John just wasn't coming, but he eventually came around the corner. I don't think he was even last. Though he might have been. It was several weeks ago...my memories are not super sharp.
Will was definitely most improved over last year. I think he cut over a minute off his mile time. Granted, it probably helped he had not been throwing up 48 hours prior to the race.
Then it was Dom's turn. He'd been waiting a year for this opportunity.
And he ran his hardest and did such a great job. I don't think he cracked the top 10 in his age group, but he loved the competition. Also...afterwards, he pointed out there were holes in his shoes....so, yeah, he had that going for him, which was nice. Eric is a big fan of barefoot running and you might as well start that young.
Some friends of ours met us for the racing and we enjoyed friendly bets over which kids in the various groups would win. We were only betting bragging rights, but it still made it a little more exciting. A bonus to the base run declining in popularity is that they over ordered finisher medals, so all of the kid participants received one. Even Johnny.
And here is a front runner for our Christmas card: Classic!
