We recently learned that we are expecting our third son. If this is news to you, you clearly didn't take the time to google Luke 1:63. Or get out the Bible for that matter...but, enough about that. We are expecting our third son in April and are thrilled. As we watched our little one on the screen, if anything, we were more excited than we have ever been before. We walked around the hospital with those silly grins that you hear about people wearing. Who knows what this little boy's personality will be like? What his interests will be? What we do know is that he is one of us. And if he is anything at all like our other two sons, he will be his own distinct self, while also sharing a love for all things silly. We already love that boy!
Speaking of distinct, our boys are showing more and more how different they are from one another. Dom loves all things having to do with sports. He has read and re-read the schedule for the KU Men's basketball team that he nearly has it memorized. He informed us the other night out of the blue that KU will be playing San Diego State on January 5th. Obviously, that is Molly's birthday so there is a reason that date might stick out to him, but I'm still impressed he knew the opposing team. When we asked when they were playing next, he scrunched up his face, feigned not really knowing and then promptly told us exactly when the next game was. He caught a glimpse of some pro-team and recognized them as Jeff Withey's new team. As he was reading a saints book in the back of the car last week, he excitedly told me there was a saint: St. Aloysius Gonzaga...just like that team from the NCAA tournament! This afternoon he practiced shooting hoops for well over an hour. I love that boy!
Will is really not interested in sports at all. He tries to act interested, but he really doesn't care. He'd much prefer to do Legos:
Or play Qbitz:
Which he will play for hours. I love that boy.
A couple of other Will stories. First, when I told him that we were having a son, he was devastated. He wanted a sister so badly. I explained to him that we had no choice in the matter. And when it came down to it, he was truly upset over not being able to name the girl: Layla Penelope. Yup. However, I did tell him he could come up with his own special nickname for his baby brother and he settled on "Ditto". Fine.
The next story occurred as we were getting our flu vaccine for the season. Something we've never done, however after going through a couple bouts of flu last winter and being pregnant, we thought it was probably a good idea. We had warned the kids that they might need to get a shot and you can imagine the reaction that got. However, we were given the option of the flu mist and both boys excitedly went for it. Molly was kept in ignorance, and simply said that the flu mist felt good which cracked up the techs in the room at the time.
Unfortunately, as we were preparing to be vaccinated, the tech let us know that Will had never received his chicken pox vaccination. Ergo, he needed a shot after all. You can imagine his reaction. He was the last one to get the flu mist and then we told him he still needed a shot. He started squirming and wailing he didn't want a shot. As Eric held him and the tech got him in the arm, I wish I had a camera to capture the moment. Because he didn't even realize the shot had occurred. He was too busy thrashing. When we were able to get his attention to let him know it was done, he immediately stopped crying and looked pretty sheepish. And the whole way out of the hospital told us how much worse so many other things hurt over that shot. His examples were falling off his bike, Molly pinching him, Molly hitting him with toys...actually, Molly had helped him prepare for the shot a lot. I love that girl!

Will and Owen are a lot alike (example, prefers legos to sports)
