Visit from Old St. Nick

December 6th dawned not so early in Oklahoma as the kids have had their bedtime voided. As a result, wake up times are about an hour later than usual (or in the case of Will, several hours.  He's posting high schooler sleeping-in times).  I actually have a cute video of barely awake Dom attempting to convince his siblings they should come down to open their presents.  Unfortunately, I have not figured out how to get these to post to my blog.  Maybe someday.  Feel free to email me if you'd like about a 2 minute clip.

However, I have great diverged from the theme of this post.  This past Friday we celebrated St. Nicholas's Feast Day in the traditional manner of discovering presents and candy left in our shoes.

Presents included a Minnie Mouse and princess umbrella for Molly, Donatello Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (here on after to be denoted as TMNT) for Dom and TMNT pajama pants, and William received Michelangelo TMNT and TMNT pajama pants.  Though Will was happy with his gift, he did question why he and Dom always get the same thing...silly St. Nick!  Everyone was thrilled with the candy, especially the peppermint patties that the boys have recently discovered as their treat of choice after commissary runs.

The adults in the household were not left empty shoe-ed either.  Mom received a pretty red scarf in time for the cold weekend ahead (WITH SNOW!!) and the classic game 'Pass the Pigs'.  Uncle Brian received a magnet with three adorable kids.  Grandma (who did not leave out her shoes...tsk, tsk) received a traveler coffee mug with a picture of three adorable kids.   Finally, Grandpa received a small bottle of Woodford Reserve (in time for the cold weekend ahead)
But, the best present came after all of the wrapping paper came off.  Will immediately asked if he could go outside to play in the snow.
On came the coats, mittens, hats, and plastic bags.  Grandpa called them ghetto boots.  I preferred to call them Florida boots
Speaking of Florida, as we have little need for snow gear there, I had to run out and purchase a coat for Dom at a nearby consignment store when we got to town.  Not too bad, eh?
They headed out in the 19 degree temps.  I did not go with them, but Grandpa suited up for the event.  Thanks, Grandpa!
Molly was a little disappointed that we did not have boots to match her all pink outfit.  (Note: She has two sets of pink gloves, but neither was waterproof, so she settled for the black waterproof mittens after experiencing cold wet gloves the day before)
The kids had a great sledding down Grandpa's drive.  Again, I have video evidence, just let me know if you'd like to see a minute clip.
The remainder of the day was spent defrosting.

We did the plastic bag thing last time we went hiking in the snow. We're completely unready for any cold weather this winter. We'd have to hit the thrift store, too!
